Controlling Anger

Controlling my anger was a struggle of mine for many years. I know that it is hard to believe, but I would have the sharpest tongue at times. When people would hurt my feelings I would always have a comeback, and never cared about how it made the other person feel. I was so consumed with anger and rage. Today, I am thankful that I am not the same. God really had to humble me, by breaking me down and showing me my terrible ways. He got me to a place of loneliness where the only thing I could do was talk to Him.

James 1:19-20 says, “Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.” God wants us to bear good fruit, and in order to bear good fruit anger must be removed out of the equation. Think about all the times you lost your temper. What was the result of you losing your temper? More fighting right? Imagine how different the outcome may have been if you would have chosen love over rage. Proverbs 10:12 says, “Hatred stirs up conflict, but love covers all wrong.” You can not continue trying to fight fire with fire because you will just end up getting burnt. Do not miss out on all that God has for you because you are too stubborn to change your ways. Choose love even when anger begins to rise. No one has the power to make you angry unless you give it to them. God knows that you may get angry, but even in anger He still does not want you to sin (Proverbs 10:12). Do not let the devil in. Do not let the devil win. Be Encouraged!
